Xbox is rolling out a new feature which improves the sharpness of its Cloud Gaming streams on the Microsoft Edge browser.
The new feature, which Xbox is calling Clarity Boost, lets players turn on an optional optimisation to sharpen the edges of the incoming stream.
Clarity Boost uses “a set of client-side scaling improvements”, which means the extra processing is done at the user’s end, handled by the Edge browser.
At the moment, however, the feature is only available for players using Microsoft Edge Canary, the experimental version of Edge where new features are trialled before being distributed to all Edge users.
Although this means that only a small portion of Edge users can try Clarity Boost at the moment, Xbox promises that the feature will roll out to all Microsoft Edge users by 2022.
Anyone who wants to try the feature early can download Microsoft Edge Canary, then log in to the Xbox Cloud Gaming site and start a game.
Players then have to option the ‘more actions’ (…) menu, then choose the Enable Clarity Boost option to turn it on.

Xbox Cloud Gaming allows players to access Xbox Game Pass titles without downloading them and jump into multiplayer sessions with friends for games that aren’t installed on their physical console or computer.
Microsoft officially launched Xbox Cloud Gaming for consoles earlier this month.
It’s now available for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One owners with an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription in 25 regions with Brazil to follow.
“This capability will initially roll out with our November release to a subset of Xbox gamers and scale to all gamers in supported markets over the coming weeks,” said Xbox Cloud Gaming head Catherine Gluckstein.
In June, the company said it is planning to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to internet-connected TVs in a move that will let players access services like Game Pass with no extra hardware required except a controller.
